Taking things in a new direction!

Ok, so I started this blog because I LOVE to read. Blog, Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram accounts, you name it I stared them all. All for the love of books and to meet like minded people that I could talk to about books. I was all gung-ho at the beginning, signing up for cover reveals and releases; recruiting people to help run this thing and then the unimaginable happened. I burned out. After like a month in a half. The more I thought about it the more I realized this wasn't how I wanted to do things. I just wanted a safe place to go an talk about books openly and honestly. I got wrapped up in a lot of the blogs I see out there and how I perceived a blog "should be run".

F. That. Noise.

I'm gonna do this my way.

I hate writing reviews.

I just want to have conversations about books.

What do you think? Want to join me? We'll have lots of fun.

So, for the new year I'm doing a book challenge. There's about 50 books on this list. A few friends and I are going to buddy read. When we start a new book, I'll announce it here and if you want to join us please do. Once we're finished and have had our discussions I'll come back and give you my thoughts. Chime in whenever you want!

There a good chance I'll read books besides the ones on the list (I'm a fast reader), you can join me on those too if you want.

Happy Reading!!

The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon RELEASE and Giveaway

The Law of Moses
Release: 11/27/14

Cover design by: Hang Le

Synopsis:

If I tell you right up front, right in the beginning that I lost him, it will be easier for you to bear. You will know its coming, and it will hurt. But youll be able to prepare.

Someone found him in a laundry basket at the Quick Wash, wrapped in a towel, a few hours old and close to death. They called him Baby Moses when they shared his story on the ten oclock news the little baby left in a basket at a dingy Laundromat, born to a crack addict and expected to have all sorts of problems. I imagined the crack baby, Moses, having a giant crack that ran down his body, like hed been broken at birth. I knew that wasnt what the term meant, but the image stuck in my mind. Maybe the fact that he was broken drew me to him from the start.

It all happened before I was born, and by the time I met Moses and my mom told me all about him, the story was old news and nobody wanted anything to do with him. People love babies, even sick babies. Even crack babies. But babies grow up to be kids, and kids grow up to be teenagers. Nobody wants a messed up teenager.

And Moses was messed up. Moses was a law unto himself. But he was also strange and exotic and beautiful. To be with him would change my life in ways I could never have imagined. Maybe I should have stayed away. Maybe I should have listened. My mother warned me. Even Moses warned me. But I didnt stay away.

And so begins a story of pain and promise, of heartache and healing, of life and death. A story of before and after, of new beginnings and never-endings. But most of all...a love story.

The Law of Moses
Pre order Excerpt 1

Why are you here, Georgia? Does your dad know youre here?
Im bringing you your lunch, Einstein. And no to the second question. Why should he? I dont check in every time I ride my horse.
Does he know how youre out here jumping fences?
I shrugged. Ive been riding since I could walk. Its not a big deal.
He let it drop, but after a few bites of his sandwich he was picking on me again.
Georgie Porgie puddin’ and pie. Kissed the boys and made them cry. What kind of name is Georgia?
My great-great grandma was Georgia. The first Georgia Shepherd. My dad calls me George.
Yeah. Ive heard him. Thats just nasty.
I felt my temper rise in my cheeks, and I really wanted to spit on him from where I sat atop my horse, looking down on his neatly shorn, well-shaped head. He glanced up at me and his lips twitched, making me even angrier.
Dont look at me like that. Im not trying to be mean. But George is a terrible name for a girl. Hell, for anyone who isnt the King of England.
I think it suits me,” I huffed.
Oh, yeah? George is the name for a man with a stuffy, British accent or a man in a white, powdered wig. You better hope it doesnt suit you.”
Well, I dont exactly need a sexy name, do I? Ive never been a sexy girl.” I gave Sackett a hard nudge in her flanks and pulled the reins sharply, more than ready to leave. I swore to myself that I wouldnt be bringing Moses his lunch again. He was a jerk, and I was sick of it.
But as I rode away I thought I heard him call after me, Just keep telling yourself that, Georgie Porgie. Ill keep telling myself that too.”
I brought his lunch again the next day.

“They killed me, but I survived.”

Three years after Rory Riordan foiled her own murder, she still trusts no one. Not Dr. Z, the eccentric college professor who has taken her under his wing, not Benji, the endearing, attractive classmate who insists on following her around, and certainly not Cy, the beautifully dark and mysterious boy who sits on the first row in Dr. Z’s Astrobiology class and asks far too many questions.

When Rory witnesses Cy being abducted by soldiers in the middle of the night, she finds herself submersed in a world that holds even more secrets than she could imagine--even darker secrets than her own.

From #1 New York Times Bestseller Jamie McGuire, experience the perfect combination of her bestselling books Providence & Beautiful Disaster. This New Adult Sci-Fi Romance is an action-packed, whiplash-inducing roller coaster ride. Page after page, this unpredictable, dark and sexy nail biter will keep readers guessing until the very end!

EXCERPT 2:
“I have a reason to believe. I believe you came here, where Dr. Z was, and that we met for a reason.”

I liked this weird conversation. Finally someone sounded as crazy as me. “Why?”

“Your turn.”

“I’m really a lizard,” I said, sticking out my tongue and pulling in back in quickly.

“Very funny.”

I took another bite of burrito and pointed to my mouth, signaling that I couldn’t speak.

Cy seemed frustrated. “Okay, we’ll try this another way. Why do you always put yourself in danger?”

“I don’t.”

“Walking alone in the dark. Antagonizing men with a history of violence against women. Driving so fast that you wrecked your car—which is why you’ve been a pedestrian for the last twenty months. Walking out too far in an angry sea. Frequenting the dangerous side of town, alone, at night, for absolutely no reason. Getting on the back of a motorcycle with a complete stranger, who was clearly drunk. That’s not even half of it.”

I squirmed in my chair. Some of those things happened before I knew Cy. Even more happened in high school the six months after my parents died. All of them, no one knew about, not even Dr. Z.
Cy put his elbows on the table. “Spending so much time with Benji Reynolds?”

The last sentence nearly caused me to choke on the bite of burrito in my mouth. I swallowed. “Benji? He’s harmless.”

“What do you know about him?”

“What do I know about Benji? Not as much as you know about me. How in the hell do you know all of that?”

“Just answer the question.”

“You first,” I snapped.

“I’m thorough. What you should be asking is how I could learn all of that about you but have to ask what you know about Benji. He has no records. There is nothing available on him or his family anywhere, not even a birth certificate. I couldn’t even access his school records at KIT.”

“Are you hacking into the school’s mainframe?”

“That’s not important. You have to stay away from him, Rory. Something doesn’t add up.”

“You’ve got that right.”

Cy lowered his voice. “You can’t trust him. Think about it. A wealthy, preppy kid follows the campus recluse like a lovesick puppy? Have you ever asked yourself why?”

“Are you saying I’m not good enough for him?”

“Of course not.”

“Because he’s lonely, Cy. He doesn’t belong and neither do I. That’s all it is.”

“He doesn’t belong? He’s athletic, personable, and approachable. The women at this school fawn all over him. He could literally have his pick. He chose you and only you. He refuses to even acknowledge anyone else. You’re far from naïve, Rory. Does none of that strike you as odd?”

I began to feel sick in the pit of my stomach, and my breakfast threatened to come up.
“Stop.”

“You can sense danger, Rory. You can’t have missed this. Benji wants to gain access to Dr. Zorba’s lab. That was his final objective.”

I laughed once. “That’s ridiculous. I thought I was paranoid.”

Cy reached his hand across the table. “How many times has he asked to accompany you to the lab?”

I put down my fork. “Stop it, Cy. Right now.”

“I’m worried. I can’t protect you much longer.”

“I don’t need protection. You’re kind of pissing me off right now.”

“I can live with that. I can’t live with knowing that I’m leaving you here to fall into a tailspin until you wind up like your parents.”

“You’re not making any sense, and by the way, fuck you,” I took another bite of burrito for show, because I definitely wasn’t hungry anymore.

Cy sat back, huffing in frustration and looking around the room. After a few moments, he let his shoulders fall, and he leaned in again. “Promise me, Rory. Promise me you’ll stop tempting fate. I can make a promise to you: you have a beating heart. You have blood running through your veins. No matter what you may think, I assure you, you can die. And you will if you continue on this course of self-destruction.”
